The announcement on early April that Dirk Vanderschrick’s mandate as Belfius Insurance Chairman of the Management Board, would expire on 26 April 2022 came as a surprise. There were no specific reason given except for the “growth strategy”.
According to a strategic study conducted in December 2021, there is still a strong growth potential in the field of bancassurance. This is why Belfius has decided to change its governance at group level towards a more integrated collaboration model. As Belfius’ financial results are good, even the union ranks were also surprised.
Today, the company has elected a successor to take the reins of the insurance branch of the group: Frédéric Van der Schueren. Current CFO of Belfius Insurance, his main goal is to make Belfius the 4th largest insurer in Belgium. Civil engineer with a degree in Business Administration and Tax Management, he has been working at Belfius for more than 20 years.
Marc Raisière, CEO of Belfius and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Belfius Insurance, declared “We absolutely wanted someone from Belfius. Moreover, in Frédéric we have found someone who is perfectly capable of implementing our strategy, who knows banking and insurance very well, who attaches great importance to our Belfius values and who can represent Belfius very well externally.“
From now on, Frédéric Van der Schueren will also have to ensure profitable growth of the business and increase the focus on sustainable investment.
