Appointments update October 2020 : Women at the Top!

October has brought its share of appointments in Belgium, with some major changes at the top of several companies, paving the way for parity between men and women. Here is our monthly overview of the most recent assignations.
 

AG Insurance

As of today, October the 22nd, Heidi Delobelle is officially the new CEO of AG Insurance. She succeeds to Hans De Cuyper, who has been appointed to a new role at a group level. As a matter of fact, as from today, Hans de Cuyper is CEO of Ageas, replacing Bart de Smet.

Heidi Delobelle has already announced that she will continue the work of her predecessor. She also wants to arm AG Insurance for the digital shift and transform the insurer into a “socially responsible” company.
 

Euler Hermes

The Belgian Wilfried Verstraete leaves his position as CEO of the world’s leading credit insurance company to make way for French citizen Clarisse Kopff.

Wilfried Verstraete sings his successor’s praise: “I am convinced that thanks to her visionary leadership, and her experience at Allianz France, Clarisse will take Euler Hermes to the next level and continue to raise the quality standards in credit insurance even further”.
 

Assuralia

Wauthier Robyns, spokesperson for Assuralia, will leave office in the beginning of 2022. After having been the face of insurance in Belgium for forty years, he will be taking over the five-year mandate as representative of the financial sector in the European Economic and Social Committee.

Barbara Van Speybroeck will replace him at Assuralia from December the 1st as Communications Director.
 

Actuarial Association of Europe

Wilhelm Schneemeier has been elected as the new Chairperson of the AAE for the next twelve months. Philippe Demol (Belgium) and Inga Helmane (Latvia) were elected as Board members replacing José Mendinhos (Portugal) and Kartina Thomson (UK) whose terms ended.

Comme chaque mois, voyons ensemble les changements du secteur.

Wakam (ex- La Parisienne Assurances)

Alexandre Rispal, ancien Chief Revenue Officer de Wakam a rejoint en septembre Assurly, assurtech spécialisé en assurance emprunteur, en tant que Directeur Général Adjoint et Chief Revenue Officer. Pour remplacer son Chief Revenue Officer partant, Wakam a recruté Franck Pivert. Il aura pour mission de développer davantage les partenariats de l’entreprise récemment re-brandée, en France et à l’international.

Aésio Mutuelle

C’est Sophie Elkrief qui sera la Directrice Générale du groupe mutualiste Aésio. Actuellement Directrice des Investissements et Placements à la MAIF, elle devrait prendre ses fonctions au 1er trimestre 2021. À son arrivée, elle devra gérer le rapprochement entre les 3 mutuelles constitutives du groupe et la Macif, qui sera officiel au 1er janvier.

FFA

Un an après l’élection de Florence Lustman à la présidence de la FFA, c’est au tour de la vice-présidence de voir un changement. En effet, Jean-François Lequoy ayant quitté son poste de Directeur Général de Natixis Assurance pour prendre de nouvelles fonctions au sein du groupe BPCE est contraint de laisser son siège. C’est Antoine Lissowski, Directeur Général de CNP Assurances, qui occupera donc le rôle de Vice-Président de la Fédération. Étant déjà l’actuel président du Groupement français des bancassureurs, on espère que cela apaisera la situation légèrement tendue au sein de la FFA entre les bancassureurs d’un côté, et les assureurs et mutualistes de l’autre, en cause, les négociations en cours pour la résiliation infra-annuelle des contrats d’assurance emprunteur.

AAE

L’Association Actuarielle Européenne (AAE) a récemment élu son nouveau président pour un an, l’allemand Wilhelm Schneemeier. Très impliqué dans le monde actuariel, il a précédemment occupé plusieurs rôles au sein de l’AAE et a été président de l’Institut des Actuaires d’Allemagne (DAV). À l’occasion de l’Assemblée Générale qui a entériné son nouveau rôle, une nouvelle Vice-Présidente a également été élue : la slovaque Mária Kamenárová, et ce pour l’année à venir. Philippe Demol (Belgique) et Inga Helmane (Lettonie) ont également été élus comme membre du Board, remplaçant José Mendinhos (Portugal) et Kartina Thomson (UK) dont les mandats étaient arrivés à terme.

SPVie Assurances

Ancien Directeur Commercial du groupe Henner, Olivier Pericchi a rejoint le courtier grossiste SPVie Assurances, en tant que Directeur Général Adjoint. Il fait désormais partie du comité exécutif de l’entreprise et ce depuis septembre 2020.

Allianz France

La filiale française du groupe allemand a annoncé son nouveau plan stratégique ce 16 octobre. À cette occasion, un changement dans la gouvernance et les organes directoires a été annoncé. Alexandre du Garreau, Directeur Commercial du réseau des agents généraux, a pris la place de Franck Le Vallois en tant que Membre du Comité Exécutif en charge de la distribution. De plus, suite aux recommandations de l’ACPR il a été décidé de dissocier les fonctions de Président et de Directeur Général, pour une meilleure gouvernance. Ainsi Jacques Richier, qui était PDG, reprend la fonction de Président, tandis que Fabien Wathlé, jusqu’ici COO, endossera le rôle de Directeur Général (CEO) d’Allianz France.

Nominations de cadres dirigeants dans le secteur financier et assurantiel

Si cela fait quelques mois que le secteur financier connait des bouleversements, le business continue bel et bien et apporte son lot de chassés-croisés habituels au sein des comités de direction.

 

Le point sur les mouvements de ces derniers mois :

SMABTP

Jacques Chanut reprendra le poste de président de l’entreprise, succédant ainsi à Didier Ridoret, qui siégeait à ce poste depuis 2014. Avant de rejoindre SMABTP, Jacques Chanut présidait depuis 2014 la Fédération Française du Bâtiment.

La Banque Postale

Philippe Heim, ancien dirigeant de Société Générale, a quitté ses fonctions cet été après le remaniement opéré par le CEO de la Société Générale Frédéric Oudéa, et rebondit à La Banque Postale. Il prend la succession de Rémy Weber, qui avait quitté son poste début août pour cause de « divergences stratégiques ».

ACPR

L’ex-président de CNP, Jean-Paul Faugère, a été officiellement nommé vice-président de l’Autorité de Contrôle Prudentiel et de Résolution, à l’heure où le secteur de l’assurance doit faire face à la crise du covid-19.

PartnerRe

Emmanuel Clarke, président directeur général de PartnerRe depuis 2016, quitte la tête du réassureur bermudien PartnerRe. Au-delà de sa fonction de président directeur général qu’il a occupé durant 4 ans, Emmanuel Clarke a travaillé au sein du groupe durant 25 ans au total. Il quitte le réassureur « d’un commun accord pour saisir d’autres opportunités en dehors du groupe », indique le communiqué de presse.

PartnerRe Ltd. annonce la nomination immédiate de Jacques Bonneau en tant que président directeur général (PDG). Ce dernier fait partie du groupe depuis 2018 et est membre du conseil d’administration de PartnerRe depuis février 2019. Il sera basé au siège social de la Société aux Bermudes.

Natixis Assurances

Jean-François Lequoy, le patron de Natixis Assurances, prend de nouvelles fonctions au sein du groupe BPCE. Il a été nommé le 7 septembre par le conseil de surveillance du Groupe BPCE en tant que membre du directoire du groupe BPCE, en charge des finances et de la stratégie. Il prendra ses fonctions le 14 septembre et succède à Nicolas Namias, nommé directeur général de Natixis le 3 août.

AIG France

La filiale en France de l’assureur américain AIG vient de recruter Linda Lamouchi, en provenance de Mercer, pour prendre la tête de sa direction souscription assurances de personnes.

WAKAM (ex-La Parisienne Assurances)

La Parisienne Assurances, entre-temps rebaptisée WAKAM, annonce l’arrivée de Clément Royo et de Joanna Chardon en son sein. Ils sont nommés respectivement Chief Strategy and External Relations Officer et Chief Product and Pricing Officer.

MGEN

Le 1er septembre, Fabrice Heyriès a quitté Groupama, dont il était directeur général adjoint, afin de reprendre la direction générale de la MGEN. Le remplaçant d’Isabelle Hébert, la directrice générale qui avait quitté ses fonctions début janvier, occupera également des fonctions au sein du groupe Vyv, dont la mutuelle est l’un des piliers.

Gras Savoye WTW

Lilianne Spiridon succède à Julien Vignoli (nommé conseiller spécial auprès du directeur général) en tant que directrice de l’activité Health & Benefits France.

Allianz Partners

Allianz Partners, filiale d’assistance du groupe allemand Allianz, annonce la nomination de Lars Rogge au sein de son comité de direction, en tant que directeur des opérations au niveau mondial.

Although the last months have been highly unusual for all industries, the finance and insurance business goes on. Let’s take stock of the changes that occurred during this period, shall we?

 

AXA Belgium

New CFO and new CRO

As from October 1st, Sabine Wuiame, currently CRO, will be appointed CFO, being member of the Management Committee and the Administrative Board of AXA Belgium. Sabine Wuiame joined AXA as CRO in 2016. She will replace Aimée Van Eersel, former CFO, who sadly passed away recently.

A new CRO has been appointed: Lucie Taleyson will start as from October 1st. Lucie Taleyson is currently Technical Director in Group Health insurance at AXA France and joined the AXA group in 2006. Both appointments are still waiting for the validation of the NBB.

 

AGEAS

Hans De Cuyper to succeed Bart De Smet as CEO of Ageas

Hans De Cuyper will succeed Bart De Smet as CEO of Ageas as from 22 October 2020. On the same date, Bart De Smet will become Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Group, replacing Jozef De Mey who recently announced his decision to leave his position.

Indeed, Jozef De Mey has decided to step down as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ageas NV as of 22 October 2020, on the shareholders’ meeting. This early departure is a personal decision taken by the Chairman. His current term of office was scheduled to expire on May 19, 2021.

 

ING BELGIUM

CEO Erik Van den Eynden leaves ING Belgium

CEO Erik Van Den Eynden leaves ING Belgium after three years as CEO. CFO Hans De Munck becomes interim CEO until a replacement is appointed.

Erik Van Den Eynden, declares that it is a personal decision. He has been running the bank since March 2017, just after his predecessor Rik Vandenberghe announced a major restructuring. He started his career in 1990 at the then BBL.

 

MeDIRECT

Tim Rooney Becomes CEO of MeDirect

Philippe Delva, the current CEO of MeDirect, has been replaced in August by Tim Rooney who left his position as CEO at Nagelmackers Bank in February. Previously, Tim Rooney was CEO of Anbang Belgium, the Chinese company Anbang, which, in addition to Nagelmackers, also included the insurer Fidea.

 

ARAG

Diederik Moris joins ARAG Belgium as Chief Commercial Officer

Diederik Moris joined ARAG Belgium in May, the legal expenses insurer, as Chief Commercial Officer (CCO). As such, he is responsible for the Sales & Marketing Department.

 

MS AMLIN INSURANCE

Ludovic Sénécaut, new CEO of MS Amlin Insurance SE

On June 1st, Ludovic Sénécaut joined MS Amlin Insurance SE, a member of Assuralia, as CEO.

He took over from Rudy Benmeridja, who is taking over his position as Underwriting Director for the P&C (Property & Casualty) branch for Europe and will assume the general management for Belgium of MS Amlin SE.

Influx of C-level appointments

What are the last changes in the top positions of the sector?

 

ETHIAS

Ethias has recently hired Wilfried Neven, the former CEO of Allianz Belgium. With 30 years of experience in the insurance industry (ING, P&V, …), he is now in charge of the digital transformation of the company. They are still waiting for the approval of the National Bank.

 

ASSURALIA

As of June 1st, 2020, Hein Lannoy will replace Philippe Colle as CEO of Assuralia. Hein Lannoy worked for the FSMA as a specialist in Commercial and Insurance Law for the former deputy prime minister, Kris Peeters. Furthermore, Hilde Vernaillen (P&V Group) will become the new President of Assuralia, replacing Hans De Cuyper (AG Insurance).

 

KBC

Koenraad Debackere, the general manager of KU Leuven should succeed Thomas Leysen at the head of KBC. His application is currently being reviewed by the regulators. This validation – which is held in Belgium by the National Bank and in Frankfurt by the European Central Bank – must result in a ‘fit and proper certificate’. If the regulators are positive, KBC shareholders will be able to formally appoint Debackere at the general meeting on May 7th.

 

AXA Belgium

After a long break for health reasons, Aimée Van Eersel is back at her position as CFO of Axa Belgium. François Lecomte, her substitute ad interim, decided to quit the AXA group.

 

FEB

Bart De Smet, the former CEO of Ageas and manager of the year 2016, is now the President of the FEB. It’s the first time that a president comes from the financial industry.

 

NN Belgium

The return of Pieter-Bas Vos in Belgium, after being the General Manager of the Turkish branch of the NN group is followed by new appointments in the management team. First, Joost van Ginkel is the new Chief Marketing Officer.  Secondly, Pascal Van Eyken has been designated as Director of Employee Benefits & Self Employed and is now part of the NN Belgium Management Team. Quick reminder, Pascal Van Eyken joined NN one year ago as EB Sales Director. He has extensive experience in the insurance and brokerage industry as a former CEO of Gras Savoye and Willis Towers Watson.

 

ING Belgium

Last weekend, Koen Van Gerven quit the management of Bpost. The (now) former CEO is expected to join ING Belgium’s  Executive board. At the moment, he is waiting for the “fit & proper” validation of the NBB.
