For the tenth consecutive year, HR expert Acerta has mapped the commuting habits of Belgians. This edition highlights a striking finding: a record number of workers in Wallonia now use a bicycle to get to work. Overall, 6% cycle to their workplace, representing a 64% increase compared to five years ago. While car use has slightly declined, it remains dominant: 87.9% of Walloons rely exclusively on a car for commuting. Company cars are increasingly electric, with the number of employees using an electric company vehicle rising by 58% in just one year.<\/span><\/p>

According to Vias\u2019s latest road safety barometer, Belgium saw a 5% increase in bodily-injury accidents during the first nine months of the year, reaching 27,662 incidents nationwide. Two-wheelers were particularly affected: accidents involving mopeds rose 11% to nearly 2,800 (the highest in ten years) while e-scooter accidents surged 43% to 1,849, and cycling accidents increased 9%, largely driven by a 20% rise in e-bike incidents. The increase was observed across all regions: Wallonia (+6%), Brussels (+7%), and Flanders (+5%). Vias highlights the need for stronger enforcement against high speeds, improved equipment for police to measure vehicle speed, and enhanced individual protection, such as mandatory helmets for e-scooter riders, who are disproportionately at risk of severe head injuries.<\/span><\/p>
