KBC expands KBC Mobile with digital wallet, multicurrency payments and travel services

KBC has unveiled a series of new digital features for KBC Mobile, reinforcing its ambition to make the app a comprehensive everyday platform beyond traditional banking. This summer, the bank will launch Kate Wallet, Belgium’s first bank-integrated digital wallet, allowing customers to store payment and loyalty cards, transport tickets and make contactless payments.
KBC is also introducing multicurrency accounts, enabling customers to hold and spend up to 29 foreign currencies at real-time exchange rates without additional fees (up to €1,500 per month).
In partnership with Firsty, users will also be able to purchase and activate eSIMs for mobile data in more than 180 countries directly through the app.
The bank further announced the creation of a dedicated digital assets division, underlining its commitment to innovation while continuing to strengthen fraud prevention and cybersecurity.

Belfius enters the French digital insurance market with Leocare acquisition

Belfius Group has taken its first major step in its European expansion strategy by acquiring 100% of Leocare, a fast-growing French insurtech, through Belfius Insurance. The transaction is expected to become effective on 1 July 2026, giving Belfius an immediate foothold in France’s digital insurance market with access to an established customer base, local expertise and a network of more than 750 brokers and B2B2C partners.
Founded in 2017, Leocare serves 1.3 million users through its highly rated mobile app and will continue to operate under its own brand. The partnership aims to accelerate digital distribution, leverage technology and data capabilities, and strengthen innovation in areas such as pricing, risk management and customer experience, supporting Belfius’ ambition to build a scalable European digital insurance platform.
AG Insurance deploys innovative hail damage centres after severe storms

Following the severe hailstorms that hit Belgium on 30 May, AG Insurance has launched a nationwide hail response plan to speed up vehicle claims and repairs. The insurer has temporarily opened AG Scan & Repair Centres in Charleroi and Boom, equipped with Belgium’s first high-tech portable hail scanner capable of assessing vehicle damage in just a few minutes using high-resolution cameras and light projection technology. Customers can immediately schedule repairs on-site, using environmentally friendly paintless dent repair techniques.
More than 4,000 motor claims have already been reported, with the Charleroi region among the hardest hit.
The initiative highlights AG Insurance’s focus on accelerating claims handling and improving customer service following major weather events.
Ethias and KU Leuven partner to advance safer automated mobility

To mark KU Leuven’s 600th anniversary, Ethias has launched the Ethias Endowed Chair for the Promotion of Safe and Efficient Automated Mobility in partnership with the university. The initiative combines KU Leuven’s research expertise with Ethias’ risk management knowledge and real-world mobility data to better understand the challenges of automated vehicles.
Led by Professors Claudio Roncoli and Pieter Vansteenwegen, the research will focus on improving interactions between automated and conventional road users, identifying emerging risks and supporting safer, more efficient mobility. The findings, expected from late 2027, aim to provide practical recommendations for policymakers, cities and mobility operators.

Keytrade Bank expands offering with Ethias insurance partnership

The offering includes homeowner and tenant home insurance, family liability, car and family assistance, bicycle insurance, and digital device coverage.
