Drink-driving prevention: Success of the Ethias & Fline campaign

29/12/2025- Source

During the holiday season, Ethias and the Walloon start-up Fline achieved great success with their alcohol-at-the-wheel prevention campaign, offering interactive breathalyzer stations free of charge to Belgian companies and public organizations. The first 50 stations were reserved in just 17 minutes, and a total of 100 organizations were equipped, reaching nearly 27,000 employees—demonstrating that this issue has become a major concern for employers. This initiative takes place in a worrying context, as the end-of-year period accounts for a high proportion of alcohol-related accidents. Building on this success, the partnership between Ethias and Fline will continue in 2026, aiming to firmly embed alcohol-at-the-wheel prevention within corporate well-being and road safety policies.

Insurance distribution channels : 2024 figures

18/12/2025 – Source

In 2024, the Belgian insurance sector recorded strong growth, with total premium income from life and non-life insurance rising by 8% year on year, from €31.7 billion in 2023 to €34.2 billion in 2024. After adjusting for inflation (3.1%), this corresponds to a real increase of 4.7%. Growth was driven by non-life insurance, individual life insurance with guaranteed returns (branches 21 and 26), and especially unit-linked life insurance (branch 23), supported by relatively high interest rates and a favorable stock market environment. In contrast, group insurance premiums declined by 3.6%, mainly due to exceptional contributions recorded in 2023.

In terms of distribution channels, insurance brokers remained the largest players in the Belgian market, accounting for 52.1% of total premiums in 2024, although their share slightly decreased. At the same time, bancassurance and tied agents continued to gain ground, increasing their combined market share to 28.6%. Bancassurance remained the leading channel for individual life insurance, while agents strengthened their role in pension savings products. Direct insurers, meanwhile, saw their overall market share decline to 19.3%, despite a modest increase in individual life insurance.
