The insurers’ “Climate Damage Monitor” has been updated with 2025 data.

The monitor, available on Assuralia’s website, is an interactive tool that allows users to explore insured climate-related damages across Belgium. It provides data on both the number of claims and their financial impact, covering storms, floods, and vehicle damage, as well as losses affecting homes and businesses of all sizes.

Users can analyze the data over time (from 2015 onwards) and geographically (at the national, provincial, or municipal level). A key new feature is the ability to view damage costs per inhabitant. The data is based on insurers’ claims, representing the vast majority of the market. Since 2015, insurers have paid out more than €5 billion in compensation for damages caused by storms and floods.

Assuralia emphasizes that prevention is crucial to limiting climate damage and calls on local authorities to implement effective structural measures. At the same time, it highlights the importance of a strong public-private partnership to ensure that victims of major natural disasters are compensated quickly and adequately.
